Our Kenmore Electric Freestanding Range has a dead oven:( It was starting to heat up to temperature than made a weird sound like it's power was slowly dying and my wife said there was a little bit of a funny smell. The cooktop and all the controls work fine. It gives no clue that the oven isn't working on the oven control screen. The convection fan and is still working also. Any Ideas???????? Thx.........RJ

RJ,
What is the complete model number of the range?
When you said "the convection fan and heater is still working", which heater did you mean?
Gene.

The whole model number is: 790.9661.2401 Serial Number: vf44546717
I thought the convection fan was throwing heat, but I just tried it and I think I was mistaken. I'm not really sure if this model is true convection or not. The elements are definitely not working though.

The bake element in your oven is hidden under the oven floor and you can not see it. Remove the oven floor and inspect the heating element. Most likely it's gone bad.
