Never had any issues with this washer until I discovered what smelled like a burnt belt one day during a wash load. Never went OOB (out of balance), regardless of the load size - was an awesome washer.

The repairs that I made consisted of replacing the clutch assembly (using the appropriate spring) as well as replacing the washer pump (which I discovered was cracked).

After reassembling and reinstalling, it now goes OOB randomly but when it does you can't stop it by adjusting the load in the basket.

I've gone over this unit in my mind time and again and can't imagine what might be causing this. I don't have access to a repair manual of any kind, just went step by step as I dug in and reversed procedure to reassemble.

Any suggestions as to what I might have buggered up or perhaps forgotten?

Also, I can't find an 'online' repair manual on this unit. I'd like to see a step-by-step for replacing the parts that I did in case I missed something.

I'm seeing the exact same behavior after a clutch replacment but there's an obvious cause.. maybe.
I think I have extra parts that I can't identify.

Background, I'm having work done around the house, just had a new Base pump sump installed but I'm pretry sure the two extra parts I have after reassembly aren't from the backup sump swap.

I've gone over the exploded parts diagram of a whirlpool direct-drive washer over and over and don't see these parts.

During disasembly I accidentally pull the agitator shaft from the gearbox so I had to open that to reinsert through rubber boot. I didn't muck-around in the grearbox (don't see parts in gearbox diagram anyway).

Anyone know what the following might be for?

1) Steel clip. Semi-circle fits over agitator shaft. It's made from flat bar, about 1/2" thick.. not designed to fit into a grove like a retainer ring. It's wraps about 3/4 around the shaft.
2) White plastic part. Roughly oval in shape. It has a tab extending upward on one side, downward on opposite side. Tab about 3/4" tall.

I've gone over and over the exploded parts diagram but perhaps I've got the wrong diagram. I can't find them anywhere.. though the diagrams in the PDF aren't particularly clear. Because the machine was apart for a while while I was waiting on the clutch I don't remember where they came from (or really if they came from the washer).

Any info, even suggestions for research, are greatly appreciated.

They won't affect the balance.

I would check and make sure the skate plate and pads are all in place. Also check the springs and make sure the tub is centering itself.

Is the balance ring at the top of the clothes basket still half full of fluid? It helps balance the load when spinning.

There's not much you can do. Its not really just water. At most reasonable temperatures it won't freeze, so there is something else in there.

Balance ring? Fluid? Hmmmmm... :confused:
