machine bought home depot 2001 the drain solenoid closes and stays closed thru the entire wash cycle and becomes extremely hot while in the closed position there is voltage to the solenoid for the entire time question is the times operation causing this to happen or is the solenoid faulty

Your timer is bad. If your solenoid has not melted yet you could just get a timer, but if the solenoid has melted you will need a timer and solenoid.
