Hello

I recently replaced a belt on a maytag PAV1000AWW top-loading washer. The undercarriage and floor was covered by particles from the old belt. With the new belt, the unit continues to squeak and it appears as though the transmission may be slipping.

Flipping the washer up at an angle, I can turn the agitator with no issues by pulling the belt making the drum rotate counter-clockwise as seen from the bottom. If I rotate the belt clockwise, the drum and agitator turn together. Sometimes it works fine, other times it appears to slip meaning the belt is moving but the transmission does not. Sometimes, while manually inspecting like this, it gets stuck and more effort is needed.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Remove the front panel and check the base for white shavings. If so, you have a bad snubber. You can get info on this by searching for my article "replacing Maytag Performa washer snubber".
