Hi,

First time posting, hope I can get some ideas for what to do.

I have a Kenmore Refridgerator Model #70834101 and I am not sure if it is gonna work correctly or not.

This refridgerator has been sitting for a 2-3 years and I am cleaning it up in hopes I can use it. While cleaning it up I took out some of the panels in the freezer and while cleaning I noticed that the fan on the Evaporator Fan Motor was not real easy to rotate. So before going much further I wanted to make sure the refridgerator was going to work. I plugged it in and the fan does not turn. The other parts were getting cold so I am guessing that everything on the bottom end is working.

My questions are,

1) How easy should that motor rotate if trying to turn it by hand?

2) Should that fan turn right away or does it take awhile for it to start rotating?

3) Any other tests I should try?

I guess that should get me going in the right direction with the answers to those questions.

Your model number seems to be missing 3 digits at the front.
These tell us who actually made the unit.

It should spin easily

Yes. On most units if the compressor and it's fan are on the evaporator fan should be.

You could check for 120 volts AC at the plug to the fan. This assumes that the unit uses an AC motor. Some units use a DC motor and that is more difficult to check. There should be a label on the motor telling you what type it is.

You probably have a 115 volt motor with iron stator and rotor that rusted together. If so, I would replace it with a better motor that will not rust. I personally like the SM999 motor, a superior motor.If you post your model #, I will check compatibility.

Thanks for the replys.

Looks like there is a little 106 in front of and between the model and serial number. So that would make it Model # 10670834101

So does that tell what motor and manufacturer? By what I see that makes it a Whirlpool correct?
