The dishwasher is about 5 years old and trouble free up until today. It started making a very loud buzzing sound while operating. The machine appears to be working through its cycles o.k. while the buzzing occurs. The owner's manual troubleshooting section says for grinding, grating, crunching or buzzing sounds: "A hard object has entered the wash module (on some models). When the object is ground up, the sound should stop". The sound lasted for over 1/2 hour, and appears to be coming from behind the bottom panel below the door. I stopped the dishwasher, let it cool, and restarted. It started normally quiet, then started the loud buzzing and continued. Twice the buzzing stopped for about 30 seconds and the stopping did not seem to coincide with any change in function during the wash cycle. We are very careful about getting any food scraps into the dishwasher. We actually rinse the dishes in the sink to get food particles off before placing them in the dishwasher. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Bill,

Partially disassemble the pump as described in the "Chopper/Filter service" section in the tech sheets. Inspect for a foreign objects inside. Inspect the chopper shaft for any damages. Replace the chopper assembly if it's damaged.

- The part number for the chopper assembly is AP3039186

Bill, did you get yours fixed? If so, what was the problem. Gene, my Kenmore Model: 665.1737* makes the same humming noises from down below. When the cycle is over, the detergent dispenser hasn't opened and of course, the dishes aren't very clean.

I took apart from the top, the chopper assembly is fine, nothing 'stuck' inside the unit. Do I look to the motor? Thanks in advance for help.

Rob

Rob,

If it makes a humming noise then the pump motor is probably stuck. Remove the bottom panel and check if this noise is coming from the motor.

Updated. Model is 665.16349300. The dishwasher will fill normally. once it is filled and the pause to the washing cycle begins, the loud buzzing starts. The dishwasher will run through its entire washing and drying cycle with the buzzing. The buzzing will not stop until the door is opened.

Gene,
Still getting the hang of this site, and didn't see your reply until I posted the latest.

Bill,

Did you check the pump impeller and the chopper assembly for foreign objects and/or broken chopper shaft as I recommended in the post of 8/10? I did not see your reports.

The recommendations for Rob are very different because you have different machines with different problems.

Hello Gene, 2 points. First, here is your reply to my post:

"If it makes a humming noise then the pump motor is probably stuck. Remove the bottom panel and check if this noise is coming from the motor."

I removed the pump motor from my Kenmore Dishwasher because it was making a humming noise. Please advise what to look at, or what to tackle with the pump?
Second, I fix/repair computers for a living (which gave me false hope I could tackle my dishwasher!), if you need any help or have a question about computers/Windows, feel free to send me a message, would be happy to reply. Thanks again for your help,

Rob
