I believe the only way to unlock the door is to pull the dishwasher out of the cabinet for a few inches and remove the two screws on top of the dishwasher securing the door strike to the tub.

For the last couple of months our door has been sticking (or what I thought was sticking), but tonight it broke with a full load of clean dishes in it. This dishwasher is barely 3 years old. It was brand new with our renovated condo when we bought it in 2007. I am BEYOND frustrated - this feels like poor quality and after doing some research online it feels like a COMMON PROBLEM. Is this somehing relatively easy to fix? Sould we call Amana or someone else? Thanks.

I was surprised how easy it was. I got the part number from one of the repair websites. Bought it on line because none of the local guys had one. VERY important unplug the dishwasher...ask me how I know! Use torx driver to take inner panel off. I think the same screws released the door latch assembly. Pull the assembly out, remove the two connectors (this was the hardest part for me they were well connected), replace. EASY and only took about 15 minutes. Don't pay to have this done.
