After a power outage the one of the burners sparks for a while with longer periods between each spark - eventually the sparking goes away after about 4 to 8 hours. The burner works fine at all times, and all the other burners work fine. What's causing the problem? spark module? or electrode? or something else?

Before replacing any parts I would check how the cooktop is grounded. Also remove all igniters and check the ceramic part for any damages and grease. You can use a rubbing alcohol to clean them.

Here are the break down diagrams for the GE cooktop Model JGP336AEV2AA

Hi Gene,
Thanks for the response. I will check the grounding - but nothing has changed since it was installed years ago. The electrode looks clean and bright with no dirt or build up. I am reluctant to disconnect the unit since it will take another 8 hours or so until it stops "self sparking". I guess though I will have so look, so will let you know when I do. I wonder what is giving the electode the signal to spark? How come it stops?

Thanks again!
