Hello,

My Kenmore stacked washer/dryer has been leaking from the bottom of the tub. It leaked mostly during the agitation and spin cycled and made a horrible high pitched squealing noise during the spin cycle. I had a technician take a look and he said that the tub seal was at fault and has corrupted the bearing. My boyfriend and I are not in a position to hire a technician to repair it so we're going to see if we have enough combined torque to fix it ourselves. The technician told me that I would need a tub seal kit and new bearing. I've looked at a few instructions on the web and found that I'll also need a spanner.

My worry right now is that the entire bottom part of the transmission is rusted. The technician didn't actually see this; he just diagnosed the problem from when we saw the puddle on the ground and my description of the leak. Here is a picture of the inside of the machine. Will this rusty transmission need to be replaced entirely?

Thanks in advance, all.
