My son slammed the door and now the microwave still heats but the light and fan that cools the magnetron don't work. Also, the table doesn't rotate. I think the Fan motor is not working but not sure why.
Any ideas as how to diagnose further and fix? I opened up the microwave and checked the fan and it is still tightly connected to the shaft.
Model Number is JVM1851WH06 Series no. SH 900357 B Manufactured: September 2005

Could be that the slamming of the door knocked wires loose at the control board. Don't reach your hands in there without first unplugging the appliance, and discharging the capacitor by shorting across the terminals with a screwdrever blade of insulated wire.

can i discharge the capacitor by leaving it unplugged for 1/2 hour? Will that do the same?

There is no way to trust that 30 minutes will work. Some capacitors have built-in bleed resistors. Others will hold a charge indefinitely. If you're afraid of it, the best thing to do is call a pro to do the diagnosis.
