I have a GE Proflie Performance that I just replaced the Defrosters on. when I replaced the Defrosters, I damaged a piece of plastic behind the Ice Maker. I removed the Ice Maker and fixed the plastic, but now the Ice Maker isnt making any Ice. The Auger spins when the button is depressed, and water is coming out of the door when fresh water is selected. The fill tube is not iced over from what I can see.

I think I need to test the selenoid but how do I go about doing this. The ice was working just fine before I monkeyed with it. Any help?

What piece of plastic behind the ice maker got damaged ?

Was the ice maker working properly before the defrost heater repair ?

Have you checked the wiring behind the wall, maybe a loose connection or wire in the harness, from the previous repair ?

Did you check the ice maker assembly for damage, before you reinstalled it ?

Do you have a multi meter to check resistance and voltage at the water valve solenoid ?

the Part I damaged was the Fan Orifice in back of the ice maker, it melted from the hairdryer.

Was the ice maker working properly before the defrost heater repair ?
Yes

Have you checked the wiring behind the wall, maybe a loose connection or wire in the harness, from the previous repair ?
If you mean inside the freezer behind, yes, I did not check anything outside the freezer.

Did you check the ice maker assembly for damage, before you reinstalled it ? I did and visably it looked OK

Do you have a multi meter to check resistance and voltage at the water valve solenoid ? I do.

In the mean time I put water in the ice maker and I just rehooked up the ice maker now.

Great,

Since you have a meter,

access the fill valves(you have a dual valve system) in the back of the unit, remove the connectors and check for a resistance reading of 500 to 1000 ohms on each solenoid / coil.

To test for voltage to the solenoid from the ice maker, insert the meter probes into one of the connectors to the ice maker coil on the valves,

At the icemaker press down on the rake / stripper assembly, until the switch is activated and the rake begins to rotate on it's own.

The fill valve voltage should be seen on the wire harness, when the rake arm reaches the 1 or 2 o'clock position. ( if the wires are good and the fill switch in the mechanism (control head) is in the proper position and closing).

I did not have time to do all that yesterday, but this morning I woke up and there was ice in the container, about 12 pieces, and the ice maker had another set ready to kick out. How long should it take for the ice to fill? would you think that the ice maker is ok or should I still move forward with repairs?

Also there is a wire covered in clear plastic tubing, that goes from the fresh food section to the freezer section, what up with that?

Murph,

The fill cycle on an icemaker usually takes 7 to10 seconds to fill,

It should make a batch of cubes(8) in approximately 60 to80 minutes,

Sounds like it may be working, but working slow, you may want to check for debris in the water line and the screens in the fill valve.

As for the wire with the plastic sleeve,

Thats your cold control.

I hope you did not move it, or if you did, you need to put it back in the original position, so it can sense the air temperature and produce the proper temperature in the refrigerator.

Once you check the water line and filter,

I think, you'll be alright.
