My Maytag dryer started making a screeching (metal on metal sound) noise several months ago. The noise would go away once the dryer had warmed up, but would return towards the end of the cycle during the cooling down. I had the drum rollers replaced about a year ago because of a loud clunking noise and everything was fine after that up until this screeching noise. The past week the screeching noise is continuous throughout the entire drying off cycle. The clothes are still getting dried. I took the dryer apart and squirted WD40 around but that didn't do anything. Help!

Here are your parts Replacement parts for MAYTAG SDE405DAYW Dryer - Ele | AppliancePartsPros.comI would not use too much lubricant in a dryer as it will hold lint. Also WD40 is not a great lubricant once it's solvent evaporates, you are better off with a oil such as sewing machine oil. Often screeching is worn out front glides (Item 11 in Section 4). Next I would suspect the idler wheel. And then the rear rollers or motor bearings. |

Thank you so much. I will start by replacing the front glides and take it from there!
