This dryer had been acting like it wanted to not start several times, and even wouldn't at times. But when left alone for a while and then trying it again it would start.
Although, as of recent, I turn the on knob, it makes a noise (kinda a click click click and a hum), then it quits after a few seconds as I hold the knob on. Then, It will no longer start. It will do this several times now (again after sitting a while then truning knob again). I do smell something burning when I take the back off where the knobs are located.
Any ideas what this could be?

Here are your parts

Sounds like the motor is shot.
Try turning the drum by hand.
Should turn fairly easily.
If OK
Open the door and push the door switch. Then rotate the drum in the correct direction while pushing in the push-to-start switch.
This may require two people.
If it starts up odds are the motor is shot.
Watch your knuckles in case it starts up.

One proviso on this is if the dryer heats up when the motor is humming and the drum not turning. Then it may be that the motor is just clogged solid with lint. The motor has 2 centrifugal switches built into it activated by a mechanical assembly built into the motor. One switches out the starts winding and the other switches in the heater. This is supposed to happen when the motor gets close to operating speed. So if the unit heats then it is possible that the switches are activated and the motor does not have it's start winding in the circuit so will not start.

Here is a good site with additional info.
