The auger on my GE ice maker is plastic so it broke. I looked to find a metal one so this won't happen again but I cannot find one. Why would they make this part plastic?

Do I only need to order the auger part #AP3672963 ? and how do I remove the old and put in the new?

I have pictures of my broken auger that I have attached.

thanks!

Hi, Just went through something similar with my ice maker but the most important thing I must tell you is that a plastic auger is the craziest thing ever !!! ( as you already know from your post !!) You can get a metal one. DO NOT REPLACE PLASTIC ONE !! It will happen over and over. The best bet is to call and ask what part you can replace it with. Believe it or not I have an 800 number where you can get that info but I have to go and look where I put it. I promise that I will locate it and get back to you. Hang in there

Thanks so much. I actually asked the lady at appliancepartpros today and she couldn't find one but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist. I would greatly appreciate if you could find me a metal auger. I have one in my freezer here at the house. The auger that is broken is in our rental-that's one good reason NOT to continue the replacement cycle with a cheap plastic part! Hope to hear from you again soon!

Found it! They said they could not recommend any other part other than the one that is stated for this ice maker. So yours is ALL METAL?
