Refrigerator with French doors on top and freezer on bottom. Left hand French door no longer closes without pushing it closed. Right door functions properly. I believe a part has worn out but cannot tell from the parts list diagrams which part(s) need replacing. Can anyone provide advice?

The door closer on the left door has failed and or over rotated and broke. Mfg part no 991877 / no. 12 on the parts diagram for the door. That part number has been discontinued by the manufacturer, and there is no replacement. You may want to check the hinge pin on the top hinge and check the "key way" tabs have not rounded off. You could attempt to reset or test the closer by rotating the hinge in the closer to see if it will reset the cam back into position if it did over rotate. Good Luck, :) :) :)

I see the door closer on the diagram but it is not visible on refrigerator. Is it internal to the door? Is it possible that there are more than one version of this model of the Whirlpool refrigerator?

Ed, You are correct, The door closer is an internal component, You would need to remove the door, remove the inner door liner to access the closer, remove the mounting screws that hold the closer to the door. Yes, The door closer system was used on several brands, and several models, back in the day. But, You do have to have the proper part, you may want to check with the manufacturer's Parts Dept. to see if they have a substitute or cross reference part, I doubt it, as that's who supplies our parts screens and availability data. You may want to make it a Saturday project, and try and repair the closer if you can't find one to replace. Good Luck,
