THe dryer stated smoking yesterday, almost electrical smelling in nature. Called sears home services, and the repairman called me and told me I am wasting my time and his and to just buy a new dryer. He told me it will be atleast 700 to fix it and he never diagnosed the true issue. It's only 4 years old. Any thoughts? Advice?

The service tech is probably giving you good advice. If there is an electrical failure you may have hidden damage so that even if you fix the main problem a secondary problem may doom the machine.

I suggest you purchase a nice basic no frills machine, which in my opinion will give you just as good service as the more expensive machine that you have.
