Hi Mainzy,

Place an oven thermometer in the middle of the oven, set the oven for 350°F and measure the temperature inside. Read the thermometer 10 minutes after it beeps preheated. Post the results.

Mainzy,

Pull the range out. Remove the control panel back cover and the range rear cover. Locate the two wires from the oven temperature sensor to the control board. Unplug them from the control board and measure the oven sensor resistance. You have to have a simple multimeter in order to it.

Normal resistance should be about 1100 Ohms at the room temperature.

If the reading is wrong then the oven sensor is bad and has to be replaced.

If the reading is correct then the control board has to be replaced.

- The part number for the oven temperature sensor is AP204836

- The part number for the control board (aka clock) is AP382965

Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag range Model CRE9600ACL

Gene;

I plugged the multimeter into the sensor and the needle went all the way up. I'm thinking this is a bad thing which in a way is a good thing.
I think I would rather have the sensor bad than the main board.

Do you think this means the sensor needs to be replaced.

Thanks again;Mainzy

I would recommend to read the article from one of our previous posts: http://forum.appliancepartspros...continuity-ohmmeter.html to learn how to check continuity and/or measure resistance. Guessing is most expensive way to fix appliances.

Thanks Gene;

That article was helpful. So if the neddle is on zero or to the far right it shows zero resistance. It did not read 1100 ohms like it should have.
Would you recomend replacing the sensor?
