This is a fantastic forum that I wish I had found sooner.... for my first post, I have a question about my Whirlpool ET18DXXAW10, which is a top freezer unit. The compressor, fan and evaporator fan all won't work. After some research, I'm pretty sure it's the ADC control. All of the components work fine when I apply voltage, and everything works fine together when I short the black to red wires after removing the ADC. It's not stuck in defrost, which was my first thought. In fact, when I meter the red wire against neutral, I don't get a voltage but rather get continuity, which makes no sense and leads me to think I'm correct about the ADC. By the way, I tested the thermostat as well as the bimetal thermostat before I got to this point and all was well. Anyone out there who can help me be sure before I go and order the ADC?
Thanks in advance!!!

Here are your parts Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL ET18DKXAW10 | AppliancePartsPros.comHere is the tech sheet http://www.servicematters.com/docs/wiring/Wiring%20Sheet%20-%202159549.pdfIt's not stuck in defrost, which was my first thought. I am not sure how you came to this conclusion. Red to Neutral (white) you would read the fan motors windings. Probably the relay contacts on the board are welded together in the defrost mode or the run contacts are shot. You could try forcing a defrost. Note: that the defrost thermostat must be frozen so you will probably have to hold an ice cube onto it's face or by-pass it. |

Thank you so much for the reply. To clarify, I don't believe it's stuck in defrost since there is no voltage going to the heaters. This may have been an incorrect assumption on my part, but I'm not sure. As for the continuity test part, I was referring to testing the wiring from the ADC with the motor not connected. I expected to see voltage coming from the ADC but instead had continuity. Although I admit I first metered it with the condenser connected before I realized my mistake. The relay does work, which I tested by bypassing the thermostat and shorting the connector. When I plugged the fridge back in, it did enter defrost mode, although I have yet to test it using the 15 sec on/5 sec off to see if it starts up while running. No matter what's really wrong with it, process of elimination leads me back to the ADC every time. Unless I have a wiring harness issue, which I really doubt. As it's my first refrigerator repair, I see that the design of refrigerators is really rather simple and logical. Yes it sounds like the defrost board is shot. |
