Today, when turning air conditioner on to the fan setting, nothing happens. No air, no hum. When knob is turned to low air, there is a humming noise but no air comes out.
Is this the fan motor?
Anyone had this problem or know what I can do? Please post. It is really hot and humin in the apartment! :)

Maybe the motor is gone but their might be an obstuction holding back the motor. Maybe you could remove the innards and take this outside to oil and wash the unit my friend.

belt Whirlpool dryer.jpgThis stuff cost 2 bucks at ace hardware. It is high performance heat resistant turbine oil and it is the HVAC recommended product for any sleeve bearing motor.

add this stuff to the oil holes and wiggle the motor by hand till it frees up. then fill the oil holes to the top with zoomoil. This might bring that lazy motor back. These products are very cheap and worth the effort.

a flame sensor 2.bmpin either end of the motor is some yellow pegs. These pegs keep moisture from getting into the endbells. The endbells have cottton in them to hold the oil. Cheaper models or ball bearing type motor do not have oil holes.I have taken some of the cheaper ones apart and oiled them, sanded them and had some sucess. But in all likelyhood you probably need to replace the motor.Ask your HVAC dealer to sell you a motor you can keep oiled.

I have installed a new whirpool fan motor. Air is cool but is only blowing out as it should on one-half of the air flow vents.
What would cause this problem?
Sorry for so many questions.
Thanks for your response in advance.

It may be that some of the registers duct tape has come loose from the ducting. Did you buy a motor with the correct speed?
