I have an old house with a microwave mounted above the range, a vented underneath with a light for the range. Above is the vent to the outside, no cabinet. How do I mount a new microwave since this model seems to need a cabinet.

You should open and read the installation instruction sheet(s). Most new microwaves are "wall mounted", they have a large pre formed metal support that you mount to the wall, then mount the microwave to the panel. But, most of them also have to be mounted to the bottom of the cabinet, to hold the unit up and in position in the front. Might there be some sort of wooden or metal frame work above the microwave, that you can't see ? We might be able to help better with the model number of the old microwave. :) :) :)

No upper cabinet needed to mount the microwave. I think (pretty sure) that you Will need a cabinet above your new microwave to mount the unit properly and safely. Sorry,
