The drain line from the freezer freezes, over time. This does not seem to happen right away but seems to take a few days. The box resides in the basement. I was thinking it may be due to lack of use. Or I was wondering if Whirlpool had a recall of sorts where they added some kind of heater to the drain line. Anyone having this experience?

Use a turkey baster and hot water to clear the drain. If still a slow drain, force water down the drain by squeezing the bulb while sealing the drain hole. That should clear out any fuzz blockage. You can make a drain heater by wrapping a 12 guage copper wire around the defrost heater and down the drain.
