Hello, I have an Amana gas dryer (model ALG866SBW) that is approximately 7 years old. I've encountered a couple of problems lately, and as a do-it-yourselfer, I'm really hoping to figure this out before calling a repair person. Here's the rundown of what's happening: A month or so ago, the duct tape finally dried out and the venting came loose from the back of the dryer, causing the air to vent into the laundry room. The dryer went out of use for a few weeks until I had time to fix it. I put on all new venting, fresh and clean, no obstructions (using foil tape this time!). During this repair, of course, the dryer was moved out from its spot a few feet and the area around it was also vacuumed and cleaned. The gas piping to the back of the dryer was not disturbed, other than by moving the machine. I was excited to have my dryer back, but after trying it out, I noticed that a few times when I opened it during a cycle, the clothes were cool. The dryer setting was in full heat mode and was not at a cool down point. So, I started monitoring it. I began a cycle and checked the dryer after 5-10 minutes. The clothes were warm, but definitely not hot. Began immediately drying again and checked again, and the clothes were cool. Repeated this procedure multiple times and on all possible settings on the machine. It continued this intermittent heating. It seemed like if I had it shut off for a little while and started it again, it would heat but then lose heat within a few minutes. I am not necessarily mechanically inclined when it comes to dryers, but I like to try to learn, so I've done some internet research and found a lot of suggestions that the gas valve coils may be bad. Could this be true? Is this just a coincidence that the venting was replaced and immediately this other problem arose? I'm looking for any help/advice that I can get. Does anyone out there have a service manual for this machine that they may be able to send to me? If the gas valves are the problem, is my best bet to go to the local Maytag store and order some new ones? Anyone have a part number? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Kind regards, Shyla

Shyla, Your problem description, sounds like the gas valve coils are weak and about to fail. You should be able to remove the lower access panel(2 screws at the bottom) and observe the gas valve operation. A) Igniter glows B) Radiant Sensor opens C) Coils click open D) valve opens and gas released and ignites and flame. Here is the part number for a coil kit. Part number: AP3094251
