The water input chute at the back of the ice-maker is freezing up. I changed the ice-maker but after a few days the chute froze again. Got out the hair dryer to defrost it. All worked well then after a few more days it happened again. It makes plenty of ice but when the chute freezes it stops making ice and there are globs of ice around the 6" water chute. What can I try??

Thanks for your help, Chuck

Chuck,

You most likely had and have a seeping fill valve.

Part number: AP3160649
Part number: AP3160649

Since you don't have complaints of frost or ice in the dispenser chute, I would have to think, that the flapper is not part of or possibly the problem.

I would've started you there , the fill valve, from the start.

You may want to consider repalcing the water system filter, if you haven't repalced it recently.

Good Luck,

:) :) :)

I am having the same issue and I know I disreguarded the filter reminder last time. I have this at a summer cottage and was bad and disregaurded it. If I replace the filter is this possibly a fix or will I need the valve now also?

Were it me, at this time, I would replace both components,

The fill valve assembly and the filter.

Part number: AP3182816
Part number: AP3182816

Part number: AP3160649
Part number: AP3160649

I would also check and flush the water supply line to the refrigerator.

Good Luck,

I took the advice of changing the fill valve and it is working great right now. I haven't had a full bin of ice for a while. Thank you Joe!

In July we had a service tech to come out to fix the ice maker similar to the same problem above. It is a Kitchenaid KSRI25FNBL00 and he replaced the water valve Part # 4389177. The ice maker stopped working again but water can be dispensed through the door. I did shut off the water and and checked the valve out with a meter and it looked good. When I reinstalled the valve it looks like the ice maker started to make ice but now I'm hearing a dripping sound and when I check the drip pan by the valve I see water in it. but the valve is not leaking. What can be wrong with it?

Thanks

John,
You need to check the tubing and connections, especially at thefilter housing connectors, Make sure that the end of the tubing are trimmed straight and there are no burrs left on the ends. Make sure the tube is inserted into the fitting as far as possible, then release the compression ring and lightly tug out on the tube to insure it is seated and locked in place.

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

I covered up the space where the water chute exits with cardboard. The cold air blowing on it was freezing it up. Cheap fix that worked.
