Sparkey here, first time I am writing. I have a Amana side by side it stopped cooling so I did the following. Replaced the defrost timer with new. At first it cooled but stopped. I looked in the lower freezer and notices frost. I stopped the unit and opened the sheet metal and saw the top of the evaporator coils frosted. Here is my question, How do I check the defrost coil? I have a VOM and know how to use it. Also a thermostadt is listed on the diagram is this N.O. or closed in normal service? Can I also check this?
Thanks

Sparkey here, I did more checking. The defrost heater works, because I turned the timer and saw the heater get worm. Not sure what to do next.
I called local guy he said the sealed system is at fault they just wear out.
Any way to check if the compressor is shot?
Thanks

If the top of the evaporator coils is frosted and the bottom not than the problem is a bad compressor.

To confirm that the pressure in the system has to be checked and it needs a special equipments.
