Just to add my 2 cents...

This fan motor is actually 115 VAC just because there is no any electronic controls in this refrigerator. There are a classic defrost timer and cold control thermostat.

It is still pretty safe to unplug it because of a specially designed plug.

Tubing vibration? Which tubes?

Well they installed a new compressor. The 3rd repair guy they sent here could actually hear the noise.

The new compressor doesn't make the high pitched frequency noise, but it makes this buzzing noise that sounds like one of those old bug zappers that people had in their back yards in the 80s.

Still annoying, but less annoying.

I will never buy a GE fridge ever. This whole process has been an incredibly annoying ordeal, from unhelpful phone agents to repair men who couldn't hear the noise and told me it was "normal" to a replacement part that is still loud and annoying in its own way.

Although I must say, the new one is less annoying. Whereas the old compressor would start out quiet and get louder and louder as the cooling cycle ran, this one starts out really loud and gets quieter as the cooling cycle runs. Fortunately this one gets quieter within about 15 minutes, where as the old one continued to get louder for an hour or more. And the "bug zapper" buzzing is less annoying than the 8,000 Hz high pitched tone was.

I never heard a fridge ever make a noise before this one, however.

FWIW, my oven, microwave, and dishwasher are also GE and I haven't had any problems with them at all. Well, the stove makes a humming noise when I turn the gas burner on to certain levels, but it's not terribly annoying.

Here is a list of everything that annoyed me about this process and dealing with GE:

- Fridge makes 8000 Hz high pitched noise that is loud and irritating and gives me a headache (annoying)
- I call customer support and they tell me it's "normal" (annoying)
- They send a service guy out here who can't hear it and tells me it is operating normally (annoying)
- They send another service guy out here who says he can "kind of hear it" but cannot really fix it (annoying)
- They schedule a 3rd repair, but the guy calls me and says "hey, I'm the first guy who came out there and there's nothing I can do to fix it, so I'm not going to show up" (annoying)
- Oh, the "expected appointment time" for that visit was "between 8am and 5pm." Are you kidding me? Even Comcast cable can give me a little bit better of an estimate than that. Annoying.
- After many phone calls and arguing (annoying), they finally send a new compressor in the mail, free of charge (damn right, it's still under warranty).
- 3rd service repair man comes to install it, and this guy can actually hear the noise!!! Installs it. After he leaves, I find out this one sounds like a buzzing backyward bug zapper (annoying).

ANNOYING.
