Hi: I'm Ranger1: I have an Amana side by side and it keeps defrosting and freezeing by it self. Everything will be fine and then it will warm up both sides and then it will start working again. I replaced the coil fan motor but it still does it. You can here the fans running but it doesn't work. You can hear a clicking sound when it starts to run and sometimes it gets cold and freezes and other times it don't. Could a switch be bad? I thought it might be the compressor but why would it work sometimes and not other? It does it everyday, It started out it would defrost and then work for a week and then not work and now it does it everyday I hjope you can help.

You probably have a hard starting compressor. It has trouble starting during low line voltage conditions. Unfortunately, there is no fix for this and I would not replace the compressor on this Amana fridg.

You might want to check for a burnt wire at the compressor, or a compressor start device going bad, rather rare for that, they usually just blow open.
