The icemaker on the Kenmore Elite refrigerator won’t work. The part of the icemaker containing the “fingers” is pushed out towards the person accessing the refrigerator. This has happened twice before, while under warranty. The first time the technician spent approximately 10-15 minutes and removed the icemaker, thawed it out, replaced the fingers and reinstalled. The second time he replaced the entire icemaker. It is now out of warranty and the repair cost is likely to exceed $200 if a Sears technician is called. I would like help on how to remove the door on the front of the icemaker and, then, how to remove the icemaker. Also, prior to removing the icemaker, does the water have to be cut off? Photos of the icemaker can be accessed at https://docs.google.com/...p;authkey=CJv08sIE"]https://docs.google.com/document/edit?id=1JVylC-L2ibX7FfjksSqU2jvKK9qBxI6oMu7Mfnx0RVs&hl=en&authkey=CJv08sIE

Thanks Gene for looking at this. The * appears on the label on the owners manual. I don't know what it means. However, when I looked inside the refrigerator the following number is show: Model 106.57873801. The Serial Number is HRW4458233

Open the freezer door. Make sure the "on-off" slide switch on the right side is on. Close the flapper on the left side and watch the LED on the right side. If the LED is blinking, the problem is a bad optic boards. If the LED stays on, the ice maker is bad. I would suggest to replace the whole ice maker instead of repairs on the old one because of not very reliable diagnosis and very low success rate on such repairs. - The PC board kit Part number: AP3137510
