I had a pot completely MELT on my cooktop and almost catch fire! Once the cook top was wiped off, the glass cook top literally melted/chipped a big piece out!! Anyone have a ball park on replacement? Should I just buy a new one?

Hi Kiki,

Sorry to hear about that.

The new cooktop is $154.07 and we have it in stock. You can see photos, price and place your order using this link: Frigidaire glass cooktop (black)

It's fairly easy to replace, but if you need further instructions, post back.

I would guess that you paid around $680-$740 for this range, so replacing the glass top may not be a bad idea.

I had exactly the same thing happen. I've found the glass top here. (It was easy!) but I would like a little more on the "It's fairly easy to replace...) Like ... how easy? Do I need to buy a new gasket? Or is that part of the top assembly? Is it just a couple of screws? THANKS!

Don't forget to disconnect power to the range first. Usually the top is secured with a couple of screws in the front (open the door first) and screws or glides in the back. Once the front screws are off, carefully lift the top and you'll see whether there are more screws in the back. I don't know the model number, so I'm not sure if you need to buy a new gasket. Typically you don't. Post the model number and I'll check.

Looks like all you need is a new top.

Sorry about the delay...

Fridgidare Gallery Range-RECALL!!!
Model # PLEF398ACA has been recalled along with lots more for burners switching on when the stove is in the OFF position! Check out the US Comsumer Product Safety Commision website for a list of all their products. There is a toll-free number to call. I placed my call, and the tech arrived 4 days later. BETTER THAN NOTHING!
