The Situation : The ice maker has a part, it is plastic (clear), located in the back of the outside of the ice bucket, and when I remove the ice bucket I see that this part is in 2 pieces (it should be one). I am not sure what this part is called but the closest thing I was able to find is maybe the "ice maker drive cup". Now when I call for either cracked ice or cubes from the outside of the door, it sounds as if it starts to move (the auger) but when the the crack in the bad part hits, it sounds like it "skips" and then does not complete the turning motion and as a result...no ice comes out. There is plenty of ice being made!! Now, I am a very "handy" housewife and I am not afraid to tackle this job but I can't seem to find the part number to order this plastic pare. Does anyone out there know what I am referring to and if so, does what I am saying...sound like it makes sense as to why ice is not coming out? I hope that there is a knight in shining armor out there to help- me out here !!

Yes, I can manualy turn the Auger !! Why did you think that it was stuck or frozen ? It really seems that the only prob;em is the 2 tiered ciup (the drive cup) is split in 2 pieces. I swear I even heard it pop ...because it seemed as if the ice was stuck and like a dummy I kept on calling for crushed ice at the door. I don't know what I was thinking, I just thought it would eventually crack the ice jam and to my dismay something did give but it wasn't the ice...It was the darn plastic part !! Does this make sense? Infact,if I take out the ice bucket and piece the 2 pieces together (as it should be) I can actually get the ice to come out the door if I call for cubes. It will keep coming until it hits an ice jam where it meets a little pressure then it splits apart and stops. I just don't know how to open the ice maker itself. Do I just undo the 4 screws onthe bottom sides of the unit and then lift it out...But then is where I get a little worried cause I don't know how to put the new drive cup in all the way at the back. I have read a lot of horror stories of how people started to open the auger mech. and if they aren't really careful, it all falls apart. Please a little confidence building is all I need.

Thank You Gene...you are one of the special few !! For someone to help another person that you don't know from a hole in the wall, I can't tell you how very much that means to me, I really appreciate your spending your time to help me out. All kidding aside, you are one heck of a "Good Person".

Sorry Gene...I have one more question! What is the part# for the back cover that I need to trash to repair this situation? I really can't believe that you actually have to ruin a part to repair this but what can you do...I guess what it tells me is that GE didn't expect the part that broke on me to break !

I have to break a part in order to fix the drive cup? Isn't there another option, without having to buy two parts or the whole ice maker unit?
It just seems odd.
