I Have a broken motor coupling and am going to replace it. My question is how can I check the gearcase to make sure it did not lock up to cause the coupler to break.

Just pound on the new coupler on the tranny shaft and turn the coupler clockwise till the basket starts to spin. If hard to turn the coupler with one hand, you have something stuck in the spin basket, or dragging brake shoes.

Thanks for your help. Is it possible to change out the coupler without taking the cabinet off. Lay it on its side pull the pump and then the motor to replace coupler. Thanks!

NO... Very difficult without pulling outer panel. Also hard to test washer for other problems like bad brake shoes.
