Hi jameswadw I'm assuming you are talking about left front burner. There are only three parts involved in the heating process for all surface burners in your range: the heat element (most likely the cause of the problem), the switch on the control panel and wires. If you fill ready to fix it, let me know. - For the future references here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool electric range Model RF378PXGQ1Gene.

Hi jameswadw Here is the wiring diagram for your range. Do not forget to remove the power from the range prior to any repairs. If you take a look at the switch for the left front burner you can see the black (L1) and the red (L2) wires coming to the switch. This is incoming power. Each wire should show a 120V to the ground. Another black incoming power wire is connected to the "hot surface" thermal switch (on side of the heat element) and the orange wire from another terminal of that "hot surface" switch goes to the indicator light. This is, probably, the black wire which you mentioned in your last post. Two orange wires (H1 & H2) are providing outgoing power from the switch to the heat element. Disconnect these wires and check the continuity at the heat element terminals. If there is no continuity the heat element is bad and has to be replaced. It is possible the new heat element has a different terminals. Be careful, do not remove all wires from the old one at the same time. - The part number for the new 2500W heat element AP3133018 Good luck. Gene.
