Once I started tearing apart the old pump and motor assembly, I realized just how easy this job SHOULD have been! One with small hands could have done the job without removing the dishwasher out from under the countertop!

Once you have the new pump and motor assembly, work from the bottom of the unit and remove the power connection. Then disconnect the drain and the hose that runs to the top of the unit. No need to unhook the water! You should, after removing the drain, remove the white plastic thing it connects to...just unscrew it!

Once you remove the rotating arm and the round plastic cover from around the unit inside the wash tub, all you have to do is to pull up on the upper part of the pump unit while twisting at the same time. It will pop out and you'll have to rotate it a bit to pull it up and out of the tub.

Clean out the area where the old pump was seated VERY WELL. Then, after drying it completely, spray a bit of WD-40 around the area where the seal fits.

Then install the new pump and motor by reversing the above: fit it back into it's seat while pressing down and turning back and forth. You can tell if you have it seated properly if the rotating arms will spin without hitting anything! Then hook-up the two hoses and re-connect the electrical!

My dishwasher was about 12 years old. I have a brand new one now! This fix cost me about $210.00 in parts. A new dishwasher similar to mine now runs around $700!
