hello my whirlpool estate electric dryer is takeing two or three times to dry a load of clothes. I checked the heating element and it is glowing red and heating. If you can help me i would appericate it thanks matt

If you can help me i would appericate it thanks matt Drying is a matter of heat and airflow. Loose either one and it takes forever. I would check your venting. A couple of important rules. Never use plastic vent for dryers. Its not UL approved and its not safe. Always use a 4 inch vent and 4 inch pipe. You can use either rigid or flexible metal, but try to keep the number of elbows down to a minimum. Each 90 degree elbow is equivalent to five foot of straight pipe. Any pipe run of more than 50 feet will seriously slow down the airflow.

Undo the dryer from the exhaust Run a load If the load dries correctly then you have a vent problem. Clean/check the vent system. Make sure the outside louvers open fully.
If you do not want lint in the house. Take a pair of pantyhose, put one leg into the other and attach this to the dryer exhaust. Leave enough room behind the dryer so it can blow out like a windsock. Run a load.
Both the above will allow you to check the air flow and temp. Also the above is NOT recommended for a gas dryer due to possible carbon monoxide problems |
