Can someone help me with troubleshooting a water and ice dispenser problem with my GE Refrigerator model # GSS22WGPJWW. I have already replaced the Recess Display that selects either water, crushed ice, or cubed ice because of the following indications: The first thing to go out was not being able to select cubed ice, but crushed ice and water worked fine. Next the crushed ice could not be selected either, but the water worked fine. Lastly, water could not be dispensed and pressing the other buttons would not even light up the indicator lights.

After replacing the Recess Display, all three items could be selected (lights lit up) but none of them dispensed anything. However, ice is still being made but I have to physically pull out the ice bucket and remove ice by hand. I switched the leads to the water valves at the back, and taped the dispenser lever to keep it activated for water, and when water was needed to make ice, water was indeed dispensed from the water tube. So it appears that the water valves are OK, no lines are frozen, and the lights do work on the Recess Display but nothing is being dispensed.

Does this mean that the Main Board at the back of the frig is bad? Or can anything else be causing this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Everything in your refrigerator, including the ice & water dispenser, operates by the main control board (on the back of the refrigerator).

In the situation you described most likely the problem is a bad main control board.
