We defrost the freezer every week now. Need to find some way to fix it so it circulates air again without freezing up. It freezes in the back vents and stops circulation back and forth. Possibly the thermostat? I've downloaded the diagram of the refrigerator from Whirlpool as well as the diagram of the "unit." I assume the unit is in the lower part of the refrigerator and I'll need to take the back panel off to get to it.
Is this trouble most likely the thermostat or could it also be the condensor or some other problem? Not certain if I should attempt it myself or just call the man.
Please help.

Most likely it is your defrost system, either the timer, heater, or defrost thermostat. Remove the rear panel of the freezer section so you can see the evap coils, turn the defrost timer till it clicks, this is the defrost cycle, and notice if the heater comes on or not. The heater is the black rod that runs the sides and bottom of the evaperator.
