My microwave works fine but shuts off automatically when it overheats and then starts up again about 20-30 minutes later when it cools down.
I suspect that the ventilation motor is not turning on automatically when the microwave is in use as the "fan sound" is no longer there - it is too quiet. However, the bottom right hand button called: 'Vent Fan' works fine.
Any suggestions on how to repair this microwave problem?
Is there a switch I need to replace, or some other part?

Can anyone tell me what part I need to replace for this problem above?
Is it the ventilation motor I need to replace? Is that the same as the fan motor which is operated by the bottom right hand button on the face of the microwave? If so, it seems to be working when I push it.
The microwave is overheating and shutting down automatically to save the motor. It is overheating because the ventilation blower does not turn on when we use the microwave. Is there a switch which needs to be replaced? If so, which one? I have the parts diagram.

It has been 2 weeks since I posted my first message requesting help and still I have not received any replies .... I could really use some technical/electrical help here. I was told to include not only the model number but also the serial number, so here are all the details on this microwave:
Model Number: JVM1653SH02
Serial Number: GH904119B
Manufactured Date: April 2005
Purchased & Installed Date: October 2005
Please help me figure out which part to order and replace.

Thanks, TrishaS Trisha, With your basic description, I'm pretty sure you've got a bad cooling fan and a weak thermostat. (click on part numbers for information) Part number: AP3188574
Part number: AP2026071
That's where I would start,if it were me. Unfortunately, This is a reapir, I normally would not reccomend a consumer Or DIY'r do. It is a rather involved repair, and there are high voltage components involved, A very dangerous high voltage shock hazard to the repair person. (Even with the microwave unplugged). I have attached the part numbers that I would suspect you'll need, so you can order them if, you wish.(fan assembly and thermostat). As I said before, I normally don't reccomend a consumer or DIY'r attempt this repair, but will assist you if you insist. :) :) :)

I will open it up and then order the parts you recommended. I know about the high voltage capacitors and that they are quite close in proximity to where I will be working. So, Joe, Have you heard back from TrishaS?
I am contemplating a microwave repair myself. Is there a way to safely discharge the capacitors before poking my fingers in there? I'd really hate to report that I'd eally ha e o epo ha I' e u ned mysel .

Hopefully she'll see this post, and drop us a line, to let us know what occurred. Discharging capacitors is a simple process, but dangerous due to the high voltage involved. You'll need a "well" insulated screw driver, holding it by the handle you'll need to place the tip of the screwdriver across the terminals of the capacitor, Part number: AP3890071
(example only) Of course, you've already removed power to the microwave, and have removed the cabinet and have access to the components. You want as much room as possible, when you're working with high voltage components, and in the control panel area.

The cooling fan runs you can feel the air coming out the top
Right side grill unit overheats cooking potatoes. Think it is a weak
Thermostat , is it under the turn table and if it is can I get to it
From the bottom are do I have to pull unit. The model number is
Mlo153uw. Ser number is 50403035.
Is part number for thermostat ap4564957
