Hi everyone,
I have a relatively older frigidaire refrigerator and I keep getting having the same reoccuring problem...that is, the fridge part (its a side by side) gets hot, the freezer side does as well and the condensor inside the freezer ices up. The fan inside the freezer seems to not be working. This happened this morning. I came home from work, turned the darn thing on and the fan started to work and now, again, it is cooling down. I am tired of this happening once every couple months or so. Do you think that the fan is going bad? Is there a thermostate that controls the fan to kick on and maybe that is faulty? I am at a lost. Anyone have any ideals? Thanks, William

sounds as if you have a defrost problem. should defrost automatic every 8 hrs. several parts to check including, defrost timer, defrost element, termination thermostat. Ice build up stops fan, and it starts up when ice melts. Would check timer first. Should be easy to get to and replace. Good Luck. nutdriver5

I would remove the freezer panel and check the evaporator motor, probably bad bearings. Just order a new one on this site. If you have a meter, you can check the voltage to it. Post results.

Do you think that the fan is going bad?[/COLOR] You have to do more troubleshooting. If the compressor and it's fan were on and the evaporator fan was off then you have an evaporator fan issue. If the compressor/fan was off then the evaporator fan may be OK, as you can see it is wired in parallel with the compressor/fan so should only be on when they are on. [COLOR="Blue"] Is there a thermostate that controls the fan to kick on and maybe that is faulty?[/COLOR] The main cold control (thermostat) controls the compressor, it's fan and the evaporator fan. If all do not work and the unit is warm then odds are that this thermostat is sticking open once in a while. This is especially true if by turning it on you mean all you did was play with the cold control and the unit then ran OK. If you have a defrost problem, the evaporator coils have to ice/frost up to the point where the evaporator fan cannot pull air through the coils to cool it. This situation will not cure itself. You have to do a manual defrost to clear the coils and then the unit will again cool properly. If it is just a fan problem then the freezer section will not get that warm. Even with the fan not running the evaporator coils will still be cooling so it should not get to room temperature. |
