Our Maytag washing machine will not always fill on it's own (it sometimes does). If we manually fill it with a bucket it goes through the rest of its cycle OK although it also sometimes stops filling on the rinse cycle and has to be once again manually filled with a bucket. Which part needs replacing?

Probably a bad timer. I would pull the cover off it and spray the contacts with a non-residue cleaning spray while turning the timer shaft.
If this fails, you probably need to order a new timer.
