Hello, I am very glad to have found this site. I have read through the stickys and begun to troubleshoot the issue. I removed the rear freezer panel and found that the evap coils were completely frozen over. After defrosting it I tried locating the defrost timer. I looked on the diagram for my model # thanks to your site and could not locate a part labeled defrost timer. My guess is that on my model this is controlled by the board?

I then moved to the defrost heater. I did a continuity test by unplugging power to fridge. I then removed one plug and place multimeter probes on both ends of the defrost heater and found that it was open. According to what i've read this means I need a new defrost heater. I also noticed in the area of the defrost heater a plastic clip appears to have been burned.

Is there anything else I should continue testing? I looked at the heater thermostat and noticed that I would have to cut the wire to test it. Is there any other method to test the thermostat?

Thank you for providing such a wonderful resource. I thank you for your time and effort in creating this blog/forum and look forward to your response.

Thank you again

Marvin

It sounds like you're doing pretty good at this. If the heater is open, then you need a new one. Part number: AP4355467
Part number: AP4355467

When you install it remember that its a redesigned heater and needs both tubes to work right, also try not to touch the glass if you can help it. (skin oil) I always wash my hands first. Good luck.

Thank you for the tip and quick response. I will order the new heater. I'll probably get the thermostat too just in case as well.

Is there a way to confirm my unit does not have a Defrost Timer?

Take a look at this diagram. Sealed system & mother board replacement parts for General Electric ESS22XGMCBB Refrigerator | AppliancePartsPros.com

Part 801 is the computer that controls temperature and defrost.
