After spin - basket jerks to halt - no coast to stop

Washer broke. I found that the motor to transmission coupler was in pieces. I replaced that part, and now find that after spin, the basket immediately stops - usualy they will 'coast' to a stop. What is happening, and where do I look now? Is there a solenoid that controls shifting to neutral for spinning to a stop?
Please help!

You have bad brake shoes, go to my sticky above, "replacing direct drive washer brake shoes" for info on this. If the washer was in storage, it might have rusted brake housing which will heal itself after a few wash loads, but it also might crack the motor epoxy!

I have resolved my issue. I was watching the basket stop while empty. the brakes, while may be beginning their way to sticking, grab the light weight basket firmly. When loaded with towels/clothes, it stops as expected ('slides' to a stop). All is working properly.
