The part you replaced, was it a combination overload and relay or do you have 2 separate components, overload and separate relay? when you attached the new part onto the pins of the compressor was there a tight fit ? may have been loose and transferring power to the pins. Do you have a multi meter to test the windings in the compressor ? Check each of the 3 pins on the compressor(after removing overload and relay)to the compressor case for a closed circuit. all checks should be open(no resistance) if you do read resistance , the compressor is shorted and will need to be replaced. You then need to check the common pin to each of the other two, for a resistance reading the right pin is usually the run winding and the left pin is the start winding. the run winding resistance will be one resistance, and the start winding will be approximately double the resistance of the run winding. If there is no resistance from the common pin to the others, that would indicate an open winding and the compressor will need to be repalced. This is about all the information I can give you at this time without more information. I hope this has been some asistance to you.
