I am new to repair and trying to repair my washer (SAWX650MQ2). The agitator won't spin manually and it stops at spin if i start any wash. If i start the spin directly it will make some noise and in the bottom and silent. Before it started stopping part of some cloths used to come as dry and we suspected there was some problem and it wasn't spinnng properly. However agitator used to spin manually.

I have take the front panel and out cover apart and see the tub. I found two cotter pin freely residing in two plastic cover and i wonder why they were there. There is a disc type thing in the bottom which spins manually to some angle and stops in one direction.

How should i go about finding what the problem is and fixing it? PLease help. Also, can this be testted without closing it all?

Thanks.

Once you have the case off then it is very simple. If you are a big guy like me you might want to lay the machine on it's back but it is not nessesary. The pump just clips to the motor you needs ta get it out of the way first, Next unplug the motor and remove it. The coupling goes in between the motor and transmission. Once you line it up and snap it all back together it will be good to go . Be sure to plug the lid switch back in:agit.jpg

Thanks SublimeMasterJW.

I took out the pump and motor and got to the coupling. IS there any way to ascertain this is the real or only problem? The couple looks worn but it is not broken or any thing. Also with one half of the coupling removed if i try to rotate the agaitor it still rotate to prbably 1-2 to 3/4 cycle and stops and i half of couple moving with it? Is it ok or is it supposed to rotate all the way to multple cycle.

I then put the motor back on (without fastening it) and i tried to rotate the axle of motor and agitator and the agitator went free once then after trying rotating both again it enganged again and the agitator either stuck at the beginging or rotate for some angle and stops.

PLease let me know if i should be doing anything else before ordering coupling. Thanks a lot. Please reply and keep up the good work.

Turn the tranny coupler clockwise. If very hard to turn once the tranny goes into spin, you have dragging brake shoes or something stuck in the tub. Shine a lite in tub to check for something there.
