Recently washer started making a grinding/rubbing noise. Becomes quite loud during fast spin.
Examined today and found plastic shavings around the front of the drum. It appears that the drum is rubbing on a plastic ring that is beneath the rubber door gasket.
Seems like there is some up/down play on the front of the drum, but I can't make it so it doesn't rub. Also seems like there may be some front-to-back play, too.
Bearing??? How difficult to replace, if so??

Are there any posted instructions for how to replace the back-half of the outer drum??
Surely somebody here knows.....

Well, I've torn it apart and found my own answer. Perhaps this will help someone in the future...
Spider was broken. Bearing all good.
And I had a most horrible experience with Frigidaire/Econolox service center trying to get them to replace their obviously broken part -- all because I'm not "qualified" to diagnose the problem. Apparently, holding the broken spider in my hand is NOT enough to diagnose that it is, indeed, truly broken... you have to have a piece of paper saying you're qualified to diagnose that the spider is broken.
Their tech supp is HORRIBLE. All they have is a script -- and if you need to deviate from the script, they're screwed. Can barely understand them (outsourced to India??) and the phone connection is always horrible.
I had to keep going up the chain to find someone that didn't need to have a script in front of him. But he was no better to deal with.
I doubt anybody from Frigidaire/Econolux visits these forums, but you seriously need to fix your mess. Your product sucks and your tech supp is even worse. I will NEVER again own another Frigidaire product. Period. End of discussion.

Sounds like a bearing especially if you have front to back play with the drum. I have replaced many of these takes me and another tech just over 2 hours to complete. Definatly not an easy task.

NO front-to-back play. Like I said, the bearings are all rock-solid. No problem with the bearings.
Now -- how do you get the door-boot back on??

Are you trying to get it back on the tub, or the front panel?

The Bellows is the boot just for clarification...Hope this helps
15. Lubricate groove in replacement bellows with a
liberal application of liquid soap.
16. Install bellows by using a turning motion starting at
the top of the tub. At the same time apply pressure
to prevent the portion of the bellows already engaged
in the groove from popping out.
17. Once bellows is fully engaged in its mounting
groove, rotate to the proper location by lining up the
pointer (on bellows) with the 12:00 position on the
outer tub.
18. Install bellows retaining spring. This is done by
slipping the spring in the groove at the bottom of the
outer tub opening first. Stretch the spring while
guiding it into the groove all the way around the tub
opening and work toward top
19. Insert fill spout into the bellows. Reinstall wire
clamp on fill nozzle using tubing tool to twist clamp.
Make certain fill spout is pulled down as far as
possible which will aid in reinstalling clamp.
20. Reverse procedure to reassemble.

I had left the bellows on the front -- and it's (at least nearly) impossible to put it back on that way.
I took the drum back out, took the bellows off and reinstalled it onto the drum first -- VERY EASY. Then reinstalled the drum and reconnected the bellows to the front.
