Hi,

I need to slow the rotation of the drum down on a dryer. The material I am drying gets beat up with so much tumbling. Any ideas how to decrease the amount of revolutions per minute?

I know it's like the opposite of fixing, but there is always at least one in the crowd that wants to go the other direction.

Pete,

Technically it is impossible because it will affect the air flow through the dryer.

Yes, you can use a universal speed control on the motor, but you will have to use it on the motor circuit only. A speed control must be designed to operate a motor and not lights. Also, it must be able to handle 5 amps. This is well over the current limits of most speed controls availabe at Wall Mart, so you must order it from a supplier.
A better solution would be to remove the plastic baffle from the drum, this will reduce the stress on the material.

If the drum has several baffles in it you may want to remove all but one.

Or you could try removing all of them.

Have never tried this so it may not work as it may not tumble the clothes at all or may wrap them into one big ball.
