We tryed our cleaning cycle on our GE oven and the top oven is locked and will not open. I have tried clearing it, turning off the power. Anyone have any idea how to open up the control panel, or have an idea how to get the oven unlocked.

Any help is appreciated.

There are 3 screws between the top of the door and the control panel, get some pliers, or a small cresent wrench, and take those 3 screws out, make sure the power is off to the oven. after that, push up on the control panel, and it will come off. next go to the lock motor which should be to the right, remove the top screw that attaches the lock arm to the motor, and you will be able to get the door open. click this link for a pic of the motor assembly

I think I know what you are talking about, one on each end, one in the middle? I will try it and report back.

Thanks, dearsmiths

got the lock off the door. Now, it's still flashing "door locked" in red so how do I get that cleared? Appears I cannot use the top part of the oven until I get that removed. I did find a schmatic of the oven inside when I opened up the control panel. Many thanks for your help, we appreciate it!

Do you have a multimeter or a jumper wire?

No, I do not have either. Something I can get at Home Depot? If not, I could ask a Electrician friend of mine if they have one.

You don't need to, make sure the breaker to the oven is off if not already!!! There are 2 thermal switches in there, small round devices with 2 wires attached, please verify the color code one should have 2 yellow wires, and the other should have 2 blue wires, is that correct?

There are blue, orange and yellow leading into the back of of the lock motor. Then the yellow, has like a simieze yellow leaving (2 yellows together) and it jumps down, just below it, to another connection.

Do you see the 2 thermal disks I am talking about, one should be in front of the fan, and I think that one has 2 yellow wires attached to it, the other one should be to the right of that one somewhere
