When I push the Start button all I get is a buzzing sound. The motor is trying to start but is not. Do I need a new one? Could it possibly be some other component that has gone out?
FYI:
The drum turns ok. I opened up the cabinet and vacuumed a small mountain of lint out. It worked for two loads and now has gone back to buzzing only.

This sounds very much like the motor is failing. Get someone to help you and have them press the start switch while you have the door open and the door switch depressed. Try starting the drum with your other hand, and if the dryer starts this is a pretty strong indication that you need a new motor.

Given its cost, and the fact you may need a new blower because getting it off the motor often means destroying it, a new dryer may be in order.

I am certain you are right about the motor, as I slid the fan cover over and could see slow rotation when pushing the start button, and I could spin the fan with a screwdriver quite easily.

So I shopped yesterday and found a Maytag Neptune dryer with conditioning rack for a measly $50 on Craig's list $1100 new). A bit of a hassle getting it into place but it looks and works great!

Well good, and good luck with your Neptune.

Thanks for the update.
