Am on small island, so have to do repairs myself here..
Used microwave on Convection last night, and then it went dead..no lights on panel.
Discharged capacitor, and checked fuse which is OK.
In checking capacitor with ohm meter, I get no readings at all - even with reversing leads. Is this correct and would bad capacitor shut down entire unit, i.e. no lights?
Replaced HV diode years ago, but forget how to check it, and again, would this shut down entire unit?
Any advice ould be greatly appreciated, as I could possibly get someone to bring me parts this weekend. Thanks.

Possible a bad cavity thermal fuse (under the top vent) is the culprit. Unfortunately no Panasonic diagrams available.

Gene, thanks for responding.
I see what look like 2 thermal fuses... they are both up high, one is towards the back, and the other looks like it's above or attached/associated with the magnetron? I could send picture if that would help?
How might I check either of these?
Can't beleive how much we rely on this oven over here........thanks again

Just simple continuity test. They should be normally closed.

I checked both thermal fuses, and the one that sits on top of the magnetron is open - no continuity. It's desginations are:
CS-7TA
180-15A
X147
In talking with the parts area here, they cannot help.
Is there another brand or generic thermal fuse I can look for to replace?
Also - could I run a jumper to bypass this fuse just to see if I get lights on the panel to confirm this may be my problem?

You can bypass it for a few seconds just to verify this is the culprit or not.

In order to find the parts store just google "Panasonic parts" and go from there.

Gene..

Inasmuch as you have been so patient and hlepful, thought I'd share what has happened after your last email..and ask another question based on what transpired.

Bypassed the thermal cutoff and sure enough, got LCD control, so unplugged immediately.

Then I got a hold of a Service Manual to verify correct part and called Panasonic to order. They said it was discontinued and provided a subsitute part number. Then they called back and said part was discontinued, and I'm not sure if I'll find it in an aftermarket situation.
If such a part is not available, then the unit is uselss, so what happens if I just bypass the thermal cutoff and use it until it dies? Is this feasible? Thanks again.
