I replaced the motor that drives the belt 6 months ago. The dryer is old - but it was a new motor. Anyway the pulley on the end of the motor just disintegrated - i found the thin nut split open and pea sized bits of the pot metal pulley in the bottom of the dryer. i am concerned because the diagram does not show an individual parts number for the pulley, it only shows it as part of the motor assembly. The spindle that the pulley fit onto is threaded.

any one run across this, and have a reasonable solution - as opposed to replacing a perfectly good 150 dollar motor because a cheap pot metal external pulley broke off!

Yes they do not show a pulley.
You could try phoning or emailing the parts people at AppliancePartsPros but I doubt they will be able to help.

You could take the motor and the bits of the old pulley to a good sized parts outlet and if you get a knowledgeable counter person, they may be able to cross match it by sight. I would also take the belt as the pulley grooves have to match.

I did go to the AppliancPartsPros parts site and searched for "pulley" using Parts Description. You may want to try this perhaps you can find a match.
If you click on a parts picture often a new page will open with alternate views of the parts and clicking on those will expand it so you can see it better.

Following is an example but there are many others so it will take time and still a bit of a crap shoot
Part number: AP4038987
Part number: AP4038987

Hopefully someone else will jump in with a better answer.
