Hello everyone. I have an older GE side b side refrigerator, Model #TFX27FLL. Two days ago, I noticed a small puddle of water on the floor, at the left bottom corner of the appliance. Since then, The icemaker does not fill, there is significant ice formed on the back walls of the refrigerator, and the refrigerator side is not cooling as it should. I tried the GE answer site suggestions of turning off, cleaning back of refrigerator and pouring hot water down the bottom drain hole. Does anyone have anty experience with this problem and appliance please?
Sincerely,
cshulamit :o

In the refrigerator section, remove the plastic cover, locate the hole in the metal housing, and with a flat bladed screwdriver, turn the defrost timer clockwise till the compressor shuts off. If the unit does not defrost, remove the freezer back paner, defrost the coils, and replace the defrost thermostat and defrost heater. If it does defrost, replace the defrost timer.

Dear richappy,
Thank you so much for your reply. I understand your points, but can you please answer this question? We have a repairperson to come and access the problem. But do you think that this unit will last long enough to make the effort and all the expense thus far of, ice, coolers, dry ice and a lot of heartache. I am not saying that spending a lot of $ is the answer. I would much rather have a new mode3l right now. But, this unit is around 19 years old, so is it worth it. Also, what type or brand do you feel is best, now in a french door type with the freezer on the bottom, Do you favor a certain brand? Maytag, Samsung, IG, other? Thank you for time and expertise.

I favor GE, I service them at Penn State U. If you get a expensive one, make sure there is service data with it, usually behind the control panel.
