Last week, my 5 year old GE Side by Side fridge stopped working. Here is a summary of the details.

Interior lights on both sides(fridge & freezer work). Nothing else works - No fan / compressor, the icemaker / water dispenser LED control is out, the digital temp control is off as well.

After doing some research on this forum, and further troubleshooting I assumed that it had to be the main board that was out. I removed the back cover for the compressor / fan and the one for the main board. I checked for "burnt smells" - there were none. Eventually I removed the main board controller and it looked okay but I was certain that the problem was here given that nothing else was functioning except the interior lights, and I could not locate any fuse anywhere. Also I assumed that if the relay and overload was out it would not stop the LED icemaker control on the front and the temp control inside from coming on. Hence, I came to the conclusion that it must be the main board....

So next I order the replacement board from here (WR55X10942) and installed it..... drum roll please,

After I installed it, nothing changed.. no compressor or fan, no LED's working, nothing.. only the interior lights working as before.

So now I'm puzzled. I re-checked my connections to the board and everything seems fine...

So I am stuck and confused as to where the problem might be.

I would be very grateful if one of you experts could point me in the right direction.

One last thing, I did notice a small amount of water in the tray that sits below the compressor /fan in the back bottom part of the fridge. I assumed this to be normal and associated with the evaporation due to the loss of coldness when the fridge first went out

You probably have a bad power wire someplace. Best to get a pro. to look at it.

@richappy
thanks for the prompt reply. I did actually think about that but wondered how it could be that the power connection went bad all of a sudden. Is there some kind of capacitor or resistor inline somewhere that could have failed as a result of a power surge, say due to lightning?

Also what would be the easiest way to verify what you're suggesting before calling in a pro. If its just a matter of replacing a cord, and the part is available I could possibly do that, no?

Finally, if what you're suggesting is correct, and it makes alot of sense, does it not mean that the location of the power cord issue, is the feed to the main board, considering that the interior lights are working?

Thanks in advance for your response

You will need a meter to check things.
